One of Marvel's more leftfield characters, the Silver Surfer was introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the early pages of The Fantastic Four. The character's presence was cemented in the spring of 1968, when Lee gave the Surfer Marvel’s very first ongoing double-sized book, working with artist John Buscema, who had recently worked on The Avengers. Together, they created a series of legendary tales that helped define this iconic character in an 18-issue run of stories that are now captured in Taschen's 'Marvel Comics Library. Silver Surfer. Vol. 1. 1968-1970', an ode to the Silver Surfer. The XXL tome is taken from the Eisner Award-winning Marvel Comics Library series and combines photography of pristine preserved comics reproduced in close collaboration with Marvel and the Certified Guaranty Company, with texts by author and critic Douglas Wolk and Marvel artist and brother of John Buscema, Sal Buscema. It's all joined by original artwork and rare memorabilia across custom paper stock exclusively developed for this series to mimic the touch of the original comics for a wholly original experience.
