One of the greatest architects of the age, the late Dame Zaha Hadid (1950–2016) was the first woman to receive the RIBA Gold Medal in recognition for her work. Hadid's professional career began in 1979 and major completed projects include the Vitra Fire Station at Weil am Rhein, Rome's MAXXI and the London Olympics Aquatics Center.
Yet her talents exceeded architecture, and she often forayed into the realms of furniture and jewellery design. Hadid also turned her hand to publishing when she guest edited a 2008 issue of Wallpaper* and she was is also well known as a painter and designer, with her work showcased in various international exhibitions.
