Born in Vercelli in 1924, Roberto Sambonet travelled the world before eventually settling in Milan in 1953, where he opened his own studio. Despite committing himself to painting during this time, collaborations with design heavyweights such as Alvar Aalto followed, and the Italian designer became equally renowned for his foray into graphics and communication. Between 1956 and 1960 Sambonet was Art Director at Zodiac magazine and later became a consultant for Milanese retail emporium La Rinascente in the sixties, as well as a collaborator with brands such as Tiffany, Baccarat and Fiat.
