A former student of Otto Wagner, Austrian architect Josef Hoffmann was a key player in the establishment of both the Vienna Secession and, in 1903, the Wiener Werkstaette, which he directed for 30 years. Hoffmann's work is unique in its ability to consistently bear all the hallmarks of his aesthetic — quadratic themes and geometric lines — while simultaneously mirroring the leading contemporary styles of his time.
