A trained architect and painter, Italian designer Joe Colombo was an active painter and sculptor before joining the Art Concept Group in 1955. It was from this point that Colombo focused on his design career, taking over the family electrics business and using this new outlet as a means to experiment with construction and production technologies.
Despite opening his own successful interior design and architecture studio in 1962, Colombo continued to design products for brands such as Oluce, Kartell, Bieffe, Alessi, Flexform and Boffi until his death in 1971.
