Described as ‘a free spirit who championed design for all’, Charlotte Perriand subscribed to modernist aesthetics that were reflected in her furniture and architecture designs. A pioneer of 20th century design, Perriand broke onto the scene with her famous 'Bar sous le Toi' — or, Bar under the roof — in 1927, the same year the French architect and designer embarked on a decade
long collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. Her all-encompassing vision of a ‘synthesis of the arts’, where design, art and architecture come together is visible in a host of projects — from the furnishings designed with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, to commissions by international brands such as Air France.
