XLBoom: A Perfect Balance between Tradition and Modern Designs
Belgium-based brand XLBoom was founded in 1997 by Ann De Cock and Geert-Jan Van Cauwelaert who design handcrafted accessories for both inside and outside the home, including plant stands, wine racks, vases and frames.

Despite being based in Antwerp, the brand’s pieces are also designed in various workshops outside of Europe, in order to ensure the utmost quality and care when it comes to materials.

Designer Focus
Finn Stone
A designer with an evident creative flair and a love for contemporary designs, Irish designer Finn Stone is based in London and is internationally known for his ‘Ball Chair’ design for XLBoom, one of the brand’s most iconic pieces which is sold in countries all over the world.
Creating diverse and quirky products full of energy, Stone’s eccentric character shines through in everything he makes. In addition to design products, Stone creates sculptural pieces that definitely give the stop and stare effect and are on show in various public spaces in the United Kingdom.
Opting for the likes of fibreglass and aluminium, Finn Stone also creates wonders from everyday objects such as Lego. His fine art is exhibited internationally.
Alain Gilles
Alain Gilles is a Belgian designer born in 1970 who started out in the world of finance after graduating in Political Sciences and Marketing Management. Deciding to follow his passion for design, he returned to studying on an Industrial Design course in France.
Opening his own studio in 2007, Gilles has gone on to collaborate with many brands and editors and is renowned for his unique attitude to furniture, product design and interior architecture.
Gaining international recognition for his work, he has won many awards on the way and was named as “Design of the Year” in 2012 by the Interieur Kortrijk Fair.
Designed the 'Emoji' bookends, 'Carry Away' paperweight and 'Carry Away' tray for XLBoom.
Alain Berteau
Alain Berteau is a Brussels-based architect and designer who since 2002, has been working for leading international brands creating interior designs, home accessories, furniture and structures.
With a passion for designing eco-friendly and innovative products, he has gained recognition both his simplicity and versatility when it comes to his work.
Berteau has won not only the “Designer of the Year” award in 2006 at the Interieur Kortrijk Biennale, but many other awards along his journey. He is especially well known for his work refurbishing the Belgian artist residencies of the Isola Comacina at Lake Como in Italy.
Berteau worked as a design professor at LA CAMBRE school of Arts from 2003 to 2013 and currently teaches product design at the College of Advertising and Design in Brussels.
Designed the ‘Host’ carafe and vase, ‘Host’ glass, and ‘Host’ wine glass for XLBoom.

'Emoji' bookends
These striking 'Emoji' bookends were designed by Alain Gilles for XLBoom, who kept in mind the traditional idea of reading paper books in a world full of technology. With a dual functionality meaning they can be used standing up in two different positions, they combine practicality and authentic design. Whether they are used to prop books up or simply as a feature on a bookcase or shelf, the solid colour and the unique form give them a remarkable presence.
'Bridge' vase
Italian designer Mario Alessiani created this ‘Bridge’ vase for holding and displaying plants, flowers and small personal belongings. Crafted from stainless steel and glass, it features a shaped metal tube with two holders on each side, a quirky piece of homeware that works great on a windowsill, a kitchen worktop or as a table centrepiece.
'Ball' chair
Created by Irish designer Finn Stone for XLBoom, this ‘Ball Chair’ is an original and fun piece of furniture. Its red colour can fill any room with a burst of colour, and it can equally be used as an outside piece in a back garden or on a patio. Crafted from recycled ABS making it a sustainable and long-lasting piece.
'Ent' plant stand
Designed by Belgian designer couple Jan & Lara in a collaboration with XLBoom, this ‘Ent’ plant stand is a model from their Ent and Sonar plant stand series. With a minimalist design featuring a combination of circular shapes with vertical lines, it can be used to hold plants or other items and is made up of an upper plant pot and a lower stand. Made of red iron and finished off with a powder coating, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
'Dim' vase
This ‘Dim’ vase was created as an extension to XLBoom’s ‘Host’ line and features the iconic striped pattern. Made of mouth-blown glass and in a charming and classic shade of grey, it can be used to display flowers of any sort and is a quintessential piece to own. Being dishwasher-safe, it is a piece of glassware which is easy to clean and maintain, whether you use it as an everyday piece or bring it out at times of celebration.
