A graduate of industrial design at the Media & Design Academy in his hometown of Genk, former model Michaël Verheyden's pieces are unique for their personal touches: all of the designer's objects are finished, assembled, and packaged in his own workshop. Initially launching with a line of fashion accessories back in 2002 — which included collaborations with the likes of Rick Owens — Verheyden expanded into home accessories and furniture in 2009.
The collection, which is produced with his wife, Saartje Vereecke, is defined by its celebration of simple geometric forms, minimalist lines, expert craftsmanship, and rich, natural materials, such as leather, linen, bronze, brass, marble.

Michaël Verheyden: Creating uncommon objects for common rituals
Michaël Verheyden is a Belgian designer. He studied industrial design at Genk’s Media & Design Academy and worked for Raf Simons before setting up his own company in 2002 under his name in Genk. Verheyden is an advocate for minimalist home accessories and he is able to create uncommon objects from common rituals by merging serene shapes and materials into pure, refined creations.
Verheyden embarked on a quest for simplicity, despite the backdrop of a rapidly changing world. He states, “the obvious is never obvious”, in reference to the silent yet story-telling objects that he creates. These objects also combine a global appeal, referring to Verheyden’s belief that “we need to feel grounded again”.
Verheyden works with marble , leather, bronze and oak, materials that are noble, durable, feel natural and age beautifully.
Iconic Products
‘Coppa’ Container: With Verheyden designs being characterised by pure, clean forms, rich materials and basic geometric forms, the Coppa Container is no exception. A cylindrical vessel that has been crafted from Nero Marquina marble and topped with a solid bronze rim.
‘Aperitivo’ Serving Tray: With the ‘Aperitivo’ serving tray the raw beauty of the solid wood shines through and the allure of its simplicity applies to all Verheyden’s home accessories. This circular tray is understated and can sit comfortably within a background setting, but it is still strong enough to catch the eye.
'Gullring' vase: This short blown crystal vase is exemplary of Verheyden’s aesthetics. It features a thick hand-turned brushed bronze ring at its rim, making it delicate and bold at the same time. Its clean lines and uncomplicated silhouette gives it minimalist appeal. Use it to display bunches of flowers or even a single stem, in keeping with the simple style.
'Niez' tissue box holder: The ‘Niez’ tissue box is made from hand-sewn black saddle leather. A luxury item that would sit well in any living space. A narrow slit at the top of the box allows for tissue dispense, otherwise the box is seamless, with tightly wound stitching at the corners.
‘Geometry Set’: Verheyden was commissioned by Wallpaper* Handmade in 2011 to make a Geometry set. The luxurious wood and leather box provides everything a designer might need to complete a sketch or drawing. The set features a featuring a brass ruler, set square, scissors and ratio gauge, is presented on a nubuck divider, concealing a secret compartment containing a marble paperweight, ink pad and a pair of brass stamps. The intention of the compartment is to add a sense of ritual to the project, but the design overall is very simple, allowing all the materials to speak for themselves.
