La DoubleJ: A Tale of Patterns and Prints in a Big City
La DoubleJ was founded in 2015 by J.J.Martin, a Milan-based journalist and vintage collector originally from Los Angeles. Her eye for the very best Italian fashion and adoration of colourful pieces from homeware to womenswear to accessories - all of them full of bold prints and lively patterns - have won the hearts and spirits of consumers all over the world. A Milanese brand that has been built up through J.J. Martin’s years of experience in content, product design and pop-up shops, the brand channels its unique attitude through eye-catching and unrepeatable style combinations.
Originally launched as an online magazine selling vintage clothing, La DoubleJ went on to develop a line of printed dresses in 2016 and later debuted its ceramic plate collection, made with the renowned Italian producer Bitossi Home in 2017 – which features dinner, soup and dessert plates. Martin’s experience as an editor has fuelled her desire to discover under-the-radar talent and push the boundaries to create new and exciting fashions.
Since day one, La DoubleJ has been a brand that has turned heads and added vivid bursts of life not only to wardrobes, but to homes and offices. The use of various shades and prints mixed together to create explosions of colour is at the heart everything the brand believes in, portraying a message that was born to be different and stand out from the crowd. By now a signature of the brand, these elegant products full of life have taken a journey to create luxurious Italian design that offers something that is extra special and truly unforgettable.
J.J.Martin’s idea to search through the historic Mantero Silk Archive came about as the brand was searching for vintage prints that they could cover their new clothes with. Since then, the idea has taken off and paved the way for many collaborations with top Italian producers. To name but a few, these include: Rome based artist Liselotte Watkins for illustrations & hand-painted vases, Mascioni for table linens and Milan designers Dimore Studio for a joint pop up shop and dress collaboration.
In April 2017 during the iconic event Salone del Mobile in the city of Milan, La DoubleJ debuted a line of ceramics and linens inspired by mythical Milanese housewives and named - rightly so - as La DoubleJ Housewives. Featuring classic patterns that have been given a new burst of life with updated motifs, the brand plays with the idea of mixing, matching and layering the various ceramics and linens in order to create a daring table effect. On a yearly basis, new designs are proposed, meaning there are endless possibilities in games of contrast and colour – every time you set your table you can do something original and experimental!

J.J Martin
With more than 16 years’ experience under her belt delving deeper into the world of Italian design fashion as a contributing editor for Harper’s Bazaar USA, WSJ, and Wallpaper magazines, it is definitely fair to say that J.J.Martin has an eye for producing individual and quirky designs.
Making its debut as ladoublej.com in January 2015, to this day La DoubleJ still focuses on photography inside Milanese homes and shops, as well as first-class journalism.
As an up and coming brand, La DoubleJ wishes to push the boundaries and be anything but boring. Experiments with colours, patterns and prints to make unique, unrepeatable designs is at the core of everything J.J Martin believes in.
